When looking at the film industry and films in general, you
realise there is quite a few aspects that go into making and producing a film. I
am going to talk about the Production, Distribution, Marketing and Exhibition
in the film industry.
Production
When talking about production, it can be seen that it can
come in three parts Pre-Production, Production and Post-Production.
At the pre –production stage is where all the planning of
the film is made. During this time, the film is broken down into individual scenes
and also the location, cast members, props, costumes, special and visual effects.
A detailed schedule is then made and arrangements are made for the necessary subjects
or people to be available to the film-makers at the needed times.
Moving on to the second part where all the actual filming is
carried out. All the scenes and characters have already prepared for scenes and
film at the location needed. Each scene can be filmed as much times as the
director wants it to be, as they strive for the best quality scenes to be used
to build the film .This stage is very crucial for the post-production stage as
all relevant shots and scenes must be filmed to their absolute best, as it can
be hard for the post-production when putting the scenes together.
The final and last stage is the post-production stage, which
consists of the editor assembling the film. Their first job is to build a rough
cut taken from sequence to select and order the best shots .The next step is to
get all the best shots to be in a fine cut order, so that they are coherent and
flow, as well as this, all music, graphics and effects are added in this stage.
After all this is done, the fine cut is approved by the director and producer,
the fine cut is then “locked” meaning nothing can be changed.
Distribution and
Marketing
When looking at how we as audience get to see a film release
or hear about a film, there are many elements that inform us before the actual
release of the film, such as:
·
Television
and radio
Hollywood movie distributors spend about $4
billion a year to buy paid advertising (30-second TV commercials, newspaper
ads, etc.). TV is effective can deliver information about the film to a vast
number of people quickly, which is crucial because films typically don’t stay
in advertisement at the cinema for a long time so having that gives more
audience views elsewhere.
·
Internet
Use of social networks such as Twitter, Facebook,
Tumblr, and YouTube, can let people share information about current topics,
even about movie releases, this is effective as todays modern society are usually
now more internet and technology based so more people will be viewing what is
being said, also other links to other websites can be used through the social
network such as IMDB or Wikipedia or even films official websites.
·
Cinemas
Trailers are vital of film promotion. They
screen them in the cinema before movie showings. They tell the story of the
movie in a way that engages the audience to want to go watch it in the one or
two minutes they preview. Also, film posters and sometimes Standees which are
life sixed figures of the protagonist of the film or the main characters to engage
the audience and catch their eye on what movie the character may be from.
·
Merchandising
Promotional giveaways: branded drink cups, toys, or food combinations
at fast food ties, engages audience and almost persuades them to see the film.

There are many ways that film can be exhibition, this maybe
though Film Value Chain, which means the viewing of film in different ways
